How to Request a Pallet Quote: What to Have Ready Before You Call

Getting a pallet quote does not need to be complicated. Most suppliers can give you pricing in a single conversation if you come in with a few basic pieces of information. Knowing what to have ready saves time and gets you a more accurate number on the first pass.

Here is what to pull together before you reach out.

Six Things to Have Ready

01

Pallet size

48x40 GMA is the most common in the U.S. Measure a pallet you have on hand if you are not sure.

02

Quantity

Rough number is fine to start. 100 vs. 1,000 pallets get priced very differently.

03

New or recycled

Or a mix. If recycled, bring a grade preference.

04

Timeline

When do you need them? Rush orders and standard lead-time orders can carry different pricing.

05

Delivery location

Your address or zip code. Freight pricing depends on distance from the supplier.

06

Frequency

One-time order or ongoing? Recurring accounts often get different pricing.

Questions to Expect from the Supplier

A good supplier will ask a few clarifying questions before quoting. They may ask about your industry, your racking configuration, or whether you have any specific grade requirements. These questions help them recommend the right product, not just quote whatever you asked for.

If a supplier quotes you immediately without any questions, it may be worth asking a few yourself to make sure what they are quoting is actually what you need.

What the Quote Should Include

SAMPLE QUOTE: WHAT GOOD LOOKS LIKE
Atlas Pallets & Packaging — Quote #04272026-A
Delivery (Elk Grove Village, IL)$550 flat
Estimated delivery3 business days
Minimum order250 pallets
Price valid throughMay 15, 2026
Delivered total$7,925

A complete quote shows per-pallet pricing, delivery cost (or confirms it is included), estimated lead time, and any minimum order requirements. If you do not see all four, ask. Missing pieces almost always turn into surprises later.

After You Receive the Quote

Compare total delivered cost, not just per-pallet price. A slightly higher per-pallet price from a local supplier often comes out ahead once freight is included. Our deep-dive on pallet freight math walks through the full calculation.

Ask about pricing stability if you are planning recurring orders. Pallet pricing moves with lumber markets, but a good supplier can tell you how they communicate price changes and how much advance notice you can expect.

TIP FOR FIRST-TIME BUYERS
If this is your first pallet quote, ask for references or a short trial order before committing to a large volume. A 200-pallet trial is a small spend that tells you exactly what a supplier delivers on quality, lead time, and communication.
WHILE YOU ARE ON THE CALL
Ask what else the supplier carries. A pallet-only supplier means you are running another purchase cycle for stretch film, boxes, and tape somewhere else. A supplier who carries both can cut the number of POs and trucks at your dock.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get a pallet quote?
For a simple order of a standard pallet size, a good supplier can quote in the same call or within a few hours over email. Complex or custom orders may take one to two business days.
Do pallet quotes expire?
Yes. Most pallet quotes are valid for 15 to 30 days because lumber pricing moves. Ask the supplier to confirm the validity window in writing.
Should I get quotes from multiple suppliers?
For any order that matters to your operation, yes. Two to three quotes gives you a reliable read on market pricing and a clearer sense of which supplier is organized, responsive, and ready to earn your business.
What if my pallet needs are irregular?
A good supplier can work with irregular demand. Share your rough monthly range, peak seasons, and typical lead time, and they should be able to structure a plan that fits without committing you to a rigid schedule.
